 Understanding Respite Care

At Rest Assured Respite we will consider you the expert on your health condition and we will listen to what works for you - what you require. Whether it be concerning your diet, your daily routine or what you can manage at your current physical level.

Rest Assured Respite Charitable Trust

is a registered charity working toward providing primarily
but not exclusively, respite to those with;

Myalgic Encephalomyelytis (ME)
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and
Fibromyalgia (FM).

Just need a rest or a break?
We will provide short and longer term options at the discretion of the Trust.
Need someone to care for you?
There will be a range of options that you may wish to consider both while in respite and/or
on returning home.

We will discuss the options if you need a higher level of care while in respite.
Rest Assured Respite Charitable Trust will be just that, a place for REST and RESPITE.
We will primarily be here to give you the opportunity to have time out and be cared for. But we will also OFFER services such as: education on what may help to improve your functioning, counselling, the opportunity to talk with a counsellor, chaplin, or a social worker while at the respite and/or recommend a support group that you may wish to contact on returning home.

OUR SERVICES

The respite will be a place to stay when in need of rest and care.
You will be given information on your condition,
offered the services of a counsellor, chaplin, social worker
while in the respite and/or the name of a support group or field worker to contact on returning home.
We won't promise cures but we will aim to have you feeling better after your stay and aim to keep you as comfortable as possible while you
are with us.
We will assure you
of caring staff who will treat you with respect.
We will work on allowing you to rest, eat well
and de-stress.
To find your own pace and allow your body to heal to whatever it
is capable of.

Living with an invisible illness ME/CFS

Al has had ME/CFS for many years. His uncle recently died from cancer. At that time Al saw that his uncle when one and a half weeks from passing away, was given the medical and nursing care his condition required.
Al is as ill, regularly, as his uncle was at that time but there is no such care available for him.
The stories of three people living with ME/CFS.
How it affects them and those around them.

Dr David Bell talks about ME/CFS and introduces a teenager who is severely affected by the illness.

WHO REST ASSURED RESPITE TRUST
WORK WITH

Rest Assured Respite Charitable Trust,
is working towards providing primarily but not exclusively,
respite to those with;

Myalgic Encephalomyelytis (ME)
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and
Fibromyalgia (FM).

In New Zealand it is estimated 1:250 people have ME/CFS and approx. 1:20 FM.
25% of those with ME/CFS are severley ill, housebound or bedbound.

To find out more about ME/CFS please go to
the USA Institue of Medicine Report (IOM) on ME/CFS.
IOM Report http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25695122
The report acknowledges the biomedical nature of the illness
and calls for more to be done for this underserved group.

Despite the very serious nature of the illness
many have found it hard to get a diagnosis and ongoing medical care.

We are looking for people who would be willing to partner with us to bring care and understanding to those who are in need of a place to go for respite,
or are too tired or ill to care for themselves.

The respite will be a place for the young and the old.

There will be opportunities to help in the garden or try a craft,
for those who feel well enough.
A place to meet up with others if they choose.

Everything is about giving them the choice,
empowering them with the right to say yes, or no thank you.

It will not be a conventional rest home model, it will be similar to a lodge or resort.

We want it to appeal to all age groups.

If you would like to donate to our charity, volunteer time or expertise,
then we would love to hear from you.
We believe this is an acheivable goal if we all work togther.
